Since early 2023, Maaltir, Millicent, Natha and Pini have been working on a rewrite of the Ǧ1 licence to make it accessible and coherent, in particular by focusing on its main objective: the uniqueness of member accounts.
It has taken us almost 2 years to bring you this version, which fills a gap in the previous edition: it incorporates a modification 10 process that we suggest you test now before promulgating it.
What’s more, we’ve renamed it Charter after a great deal of discussion, the main arguments being :
- Culturally, we’ve been used to seeing licences as long, boring documents that you have to sign before moving on.
- A software licence describes the terms of use of a piece of software: Duniter has its own AGPL-3.0 licence, Cesium also AGPL-3.0 The Ǧ1 is not software, nor is its web of trust. This document applies to the community of members, a community does not have a licence, but more generally a charter.
- You accept a licence, you adhere to a charter, the degree of involvement is not the same.
The only argument against this was that it wouldn’t change habits, but we didn’t think that was enough.
As indicated in the charter proposal, here are the accounts to vote for or against its adoption. Send any amount from your member account to the account corresponding to your vote.
