The goal was to make the video lecture accessible to US viewers (or anyone that understands English), not to make a derivative of it.

It might be simpler and quicker to send the subtitle file in French to Youtube, to make auto-translation to English available (though in order to do that, you will have to ask the owner of the channel « Rencontres de la Monnaie Libre » to upload the mangen-subs.fr.vtt to Youtube).
You could then download the auto-translated subtitles to make some minor changes, if needed, where needed. Note: I haven’t checked how Youtube worked in a while, so I’m not sure you can download the English translation made from the human-transcripted French VTT file ; you might have to check Youtube’s behavior on that part.
I’ve asked Gemini to translate your *.fr.vtt file, and the resulting *.en.vtt file seems pretty convincing to me.
You might want to use a software like Subtitle Composer to adjust the timecodes if you want to improve readability.

YouTube algorithm incorrectly transcribed the audio and made strange errors such as « theorie » → « terroriste », or the appearances of « chesne » (oak). YouTube’s English transcript was translated from the flawed French transcript.
As mentioned in the ad, AI isn’t a concern. But it needs human oversight.

If you check the one I had Gemini make, and find some parts that don’t quite sound right, I’m ok with having a look at it and making the necessary corrections. Just send me the start and stop time codes. We can continue this discussion via PM.

I’m confortable with transcripts. Here is the transcription of the French version improved by Gemini (and I):
I’ve played some parts of the video in sync with the subtitles and I think it’s great, overall (and it’s quite impressive to see how AI can help with such boring tasks).
Some fine-tuning operations would be needed, such as:
- fine-tuning the timecodes
- spliting some blocks of subtitles that take 3 lines into blocks that take 1 or 2 lines
- proofreading the text, to correct what is missing or incorrect
I have already watched the video, so I’m not really motivated to do that. Plus, I’m on Raspberry Pi and Subtitle Composer is not in the repo.

I switched to SRT because VTT was handled neither by Subtitle Editor, nor by Gnome Subtitles (though as it turned out, both of these were too much of a drag for me feel motivated to use them).
And I removed all the align:start position:0% because I thought they would slow down Gemini.
Switching between SRT and VTT is just the matter of a Regular Expression. For example, that’s how one converts SRT into VTT:
Ofc, Subtitle Composer can probably do that for you too. And Youtube supports SRT anyway.
